COACHING STAFF

MAJOR HALL serves as Head Coach.  Major has a Masters in Education from Boston University and earned his B.A. degree at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.  He has been coaching competitive swimming for over a dozen years.  Major's coaching background is extensive, beginning with "Junior Fleet," a sailing program he and his brother started on Chicago's North Shore when they were students at New Trier High School.  From the early-80’s until 1991, Major served as Director and Head Coach of the U.S. National Boardsailing (windsurfing) Team, training elite and Olympic boardsailors from the United States and countries around the world.  Major attended several Coaching Colleges at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, including Biomechanics in Sport and others.  He also served on the U.S. Olympic Yachting Committee.   In addition to coaching swimming and sailing, Major coached Olympic development volleyball for several years, both in the Northeast and in Central Florida.  Major has written two books, "Competitive Sailing: Reflex & Decision" and "Sports Illustrated Boardsailing."  He is an English teacher at Cocoa Beach Junior/Senior High School.  Major and his wife, Sue, have three daughters.

SHELLEY PARKER serves as CBS-Islanders Age Group coach and will be working with the Level 2-Advanced swimmers this summer.  Shelley swam competitively as a child growing up in Panama City, Florida, and was on her high school swim team.  In the fifth grade, she was introduced to basketball and pursued it with a passion.  She attended college on a basketball scholarship.  She returned to the world of swimming when her children were old enough to swim competitively, and she began coaching in 2000.  Shelley also coaches the Merritt Island High School team.

The summer coaching staff is rounded out by GEORGE PICCO, ANNIE HALL, and RACHEL HALL.  George will continue to work alongside Major with the Level 3 swimmers, while Annie and Rachel will work together with the Level 1 and Level 2-Development groups.  George graduated this year from Edgewood Junior/Senior High School and is entering his second year at Brevard Community College.  Annie graduated from Rockledge High in May and will be leaving in August for a year abroad before entering college in the fall of 2011.  Rachel is a student at Rockledge High School.  George, Annie, and Rachel have all come up through USA Swimming club teams and they also all swam for their respective high school teams.

Because we are a USA Swimming club, every member is required to join USA Swimming/Florida Swimming.  Forms must be signed and returned by the third day of training.  First-time USA Swimming members must also provide a copy of their birth certificate.  Those transferring from other USA-S clubs must complete a "USA Swimming Club Release and Transfer Form."  A physical exam is recommended, but not required, for all new swimmers.

Check out Registration & Fees page for complete details and forms.
